The steep slope of the channel bed and the geometry of the canal prevented the use of large-scale machinery. The choice therefore fell on mini excavators, capable of operating safely and with greater stability within the channel.
In this setting, it’s not the machine that counts—it’s the attachment that sets the standard.

This combination of equipment was used for a key phase of the project:
removing deteriorated concrete, necessary to prepare surfaces for the subsequent restoration and new casting. This task is often performed using a hydraulic hammer, which in this case would have caused irregular demolition, microcracks, and poorly controlled material removal, compromising the quality of the substrate.
By combining the planers and the cutter head, it was possible to achieve:
- selective removal of deteriorated material
- constant control of cutting depth
- uniformity of the milled surface
- precision even along the sloped walls of the channel
The result is a homogeneous surface, technically suitable for the next restoration phase, improving the final quality and durability of the work.
The value of collaboration
A decisive role was played by CMI Noleggio of Belluno, a long- standing Simex partner represented by Giuseppe Manfroi.
The collaboration between Simex and CMI began in the early 1990s and has strengthened over time thanks to technical expertise, operational reliability, and deep knowledge of the local area. Today, CMI represents a local reference point, with a complete sales and rental fleet of Simex equipment.
On the Bassano site, CMI provided the contractor with four cold planers machines for excavator from its rental fleet, used for profiling the concrete walls of the channel.
This choice allowed the project to:
- significantly increase on-site productivity
- ensure operational continuity
- meet scheduled delivery timelines
Because efficiency comes not only from technology but also from the quality of collaborations.
